Black bear sightings are being reported to Forest Lake police and Chief Clark Quiring has a piece of simple advise. Leave them alone, the chief said.
Police here received five reports on Saturday and Sunday of black bears.
While the reports are likely of one bear, the chief said authorities are telling residents to stay away from the animals and take in anything that bears might eat, such as garbage or bird feed.
“I think it is probably one bear walking through the neighborhoods,” the chief said. “My advice is to leave them alone and take in your bird feeders.”
The weekend reports centered in residential areas east of Forest Lake in the TH-97 areas bounded by Hoekstra Ave., 214th Street N. and 202nd St. N.

A Minneapolis man wound up in jail on Monday on outstanding warrants after he was picked up by Forest Lake police on a shoplifting charge.
Police were called to Cub Foods, 2013 W. Broadway Ave. at 2:36 p.m. where Robert S. McCluskey, 43, of 417 N. 5th Ave. in Minneapolis, was being held by store personnel for allegedly attempting to steal store products.
A check of the man’s record found two outstanding warrants, Quiring said. McCluskey had warrants for driving while intoxicated in Hennepin County and giving false information to police in Anoka County.
He was jailed in Stillwater on the two warrants and given a Forest Lake citation for misdemeanor theft, the chief said.
