At the Hamline Relays on Saturday, May 5, the girls track team had to deal with weather that would make a postal carrier proud, but that didn’t stop them from turning in a quality meet.

“We had wind, rain, and even sun as we left, but things were good,” Forest Lake’s head coach Eric Kaluza shared.

With a another double-win in the 200- and 400-meter sprints, Kristi Buerkle continues to act like former Olympian Michael Johnson. She also set a new meet record in the longer of the two races, with a time of 58.58.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Buerkle has posted the top times this spring in the 200 and the 400, as well as the fourth fastest time in the 100 meters, which she basically ran just for fun.

Right behind Buerkle in the 200 meters was Kelsey Kosman, who came in second place (28.32 to Buerkle’s 27.35), and defeated a two-time all-state runner in the process.

“Christy Newell had a great day, winning the high jump,” Kaluza noted, “and Danielle Boldenow scored in two open hurdle races.”

The previous week at the Hamline Elite, Newell topped out at 4-11, but last weekend she took the high jump with a height of 5-2.

Boldenow ended her day with a pair of top-10 finishes. One came in the 100-meter high hurdles (seventh place), and the other in the 300-meter low hurdles (eighth).

Newell was two steps back while on the track, getting ninth place in the 100 HH, and 10th in the 300 hurdles.
