FL Relay for Life wins state, national honors

Honors are coming home for the highly successful Forest Lake Relay for Life program.

Now in its 14th year, the Forest Lake community has raised more than $1.3 million for the American Cancer Society.

During the Minnesota 2007 Relay Leadership Summit on November 2-3, Relay For Life of Forest Lake received special recognition.

Forest Lake took home the honors for:

•No. 1 fund-raising team in Minnesota: Cool Runnings

•No. 3 fund-raising team in Minnesota, Hosanna Lutheran Church, Forest Lake. The team brought in $54,516.

•No. 9 fund-raising team in Minnesota: Looney Tunes of Faith Lutheran Church, Forest Lake. The team brought in $20,126.

•No. 2 individual fund-raiser in the USA, Virginia Spiegel. Spiegel collected $50,841 for the local relay effort last summer.

Forest Lake Relay was the fourth top community drive for total funds raised in Minnesota, behind the Relay for Life efforts produced in Stillwater, White Bear Lake and Woodbury.

As a county, Washington County placed third nationwide for per capita fund-raising in its population bracket.

In its 14 years of raising funds for the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life of Forest Lake has raised more $1,368,000 to fight cancer and support families who battle cancer.

According to Relay for Life Chair Nancy Rosman, Forest Lake is busily planning for its 15th anniversary and hopes that everyone will come and enjoy an incredible evening on August 1, 2008, at the Forest Lake High School track.
