St. Croix Valley youth ski league

The St. Croix Valley Minnesota Youth Ski League will begin its 30th season with a registration and ski swap at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the William O’Brien State Park interpretive center. This is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to giving 3 to 13-year-olds an opportunity to learn to cross-country ski in a family setting. The eight-week regular season at William O’Brien State Park begins every Sunday at 1 p.m. Jan. 6 through Feb. 24. A membership fee of $25 per child ($60 maximum per family) includes membership in the Minnesota Youth Ski League (www.mysl.org) and snacks. All participants must provide their own equipment. Minnesota State Park vehicle permits are required as well as a Minnesota Ski Pass for all skiers 16 and above. The club meets in all weather conditions. FLBA meeting; coaching

Forest Lake Baseball Association's monthly board meeting is Sunday, Nov. 11. It will be held at the American Legion, 355 W. Broadway, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Go to www.flbaseball.org for more Forest Lake traveling baseball information.

The FLBA is also taking coaching applications for the 2008 season. Applications can be found at www.flbaseball.org., or call Dale Hager at 651-433-5288. Application deadline is Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008.

FLAAA meets on 2nd Tuesday

The FLAAA holds its regular monthly meeting the second Tuesday of each month at The Cornerstone in Wyoming at 7 p.m. Questions about the FLAAA or meetings call Terri or Larry Porter at 651-464-8094. The next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Edlund earns All-MIAC honor

Forest Lake High School graduate and current Gustavus Adolphus student athlete, Laura Edlund (FLHS class of '04), earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors by placing sixth at the MIAC Cross Country Championships Saturday, October 27. Edlund, a senior, helped lead the Golden Gustie squad to sixth place at this year’s championships with a time of 22:57, improving on her 29th-place finish of 24:24 last season. She has been the top Gustavus runner in every race this season, crossing the finish line as high as fifth place at the NDSU Bison Open. Gustavus will compete at the NCAA Central Regional Meet, Nov. 10 in Northfield, MN. Edlund, a social studies teaching and history double major, is the daughter of Steve and RuthAnne Edlund.

Swim team pancake breakfast

The Forest Lake boys swimming and diving team is hosting a pancake breakfast at Applebee's, on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 8 - 10 a.m. The cost is $5 at the door, or members of the team can also be contacted for tickets.

Forest Lake Floral sponsors Sports Complex fundraiser

Area residents can get their holiday greenery and give a gift to the Sports Complex at the same time. Forest Lake Floral is donating a portion of sales on select holiday products to the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association when ordered by Monday, Nov. 26, using a special order form. Eligible products include trees, poinsettias, garlands and wreaths. A portion of each sale will go to FLAAA, which will split the donation between individual sports and the Sports Complex. Order forms must be turned in to Forest Lake Floral by Monday, Nov. 26, 2007. They can be turned in at the store at 508 S. Lake St., faxed to 651-464-0920, or scanned and e-mailed to info@forestlakefloral.com. Orders can then be picked up and paid for at Forest Lake Floral during business hours Monday, Dec. 3, to Sunday, Dec. 9. YSB Dec. 1 pool tournament

Join everyone at Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center in Wyoming as the YSB racks ‘em up and lets ‘em roll at the YSB Pool Tourney for Youth and Adult Pairs. Here’s your perfect shot at some quality time with a youth, and friendly competition against other pairs. Youth in grades 7-12 and an adult partner are invited to participate in this best of three, double-elimination pool tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007. Teams of two will begin tournament play at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required by Monday, Nov. 26, 2007. The fee for this program is $18 per team, which includes tournament pool play, structured brackets and competitions, and prize trophies to the top three finishing teams. Please note that this is a smoke and alcohol-free event. Group size is limited and no refunds will be granted after the registration deadline. A limited number of partial scholarships may also be available. Register early to ensure your place in the tournament. Basketball Alumni Tournament

The 2007-08 Forest Lake basketball alumni tournament will be Saturday, Dec. 22 at Forest Lake High School. The cost is $120 per team. Three games guaranteed, and each player on the championship team receives a Ranger Alumni Champion T-shirt (The Dan Ryan Team is the two-time defending champs). You may either be a former student or a past or present teacher of the Forest Lake Area School district.
