City taxation, budget hearing Dec. 3

In a little over two weeks, citizens of Forest Lake will have a chance to voice their opinions on the taxing and budget plan for the city in 2008. On Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., the Forest Lake City Council will host the annual public hearing at Forest Lake City Hall, 220 N. Lake St. The city has approved a preliminary property tax levy of $7.2 million, an increase of 9.9 percent, that will support a proposed 2008 budget of $12.7 million. The proposed budget for 2008 is a 9.5 percent increase over the 2007 budget of $11.6 million. If needed, the public hearing will be continued to Monday, Dec. 10. On Dec. 10, during its regular meeting, the city council may take action to certify the new tax levy and OK the 2008 budget
