6 fire departments work to control Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area blaze

Strong westerly winds on Friday proved a challenge for firefighters after an early afternoon blaze was reported in the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area west of Forest Lake and Wyoming. But fire crews from six area departments reportedly had the blaze under control by 3 p.m. and were dealing with hot spots. Here, a fire crew parked along one of the management area roads west of Wyoming waits for orders. Firefighters from Wyoming, Forest Lake, Linwood, East Bethel, Chisago City and Stacy-Lent were on the scene. Fire crews from Hugo and Lindstrom were on standby at the Forest Lake and Wyoming fire stations, respectively. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. (Photo By Cliff Buchan)
