Free events highlight Community Education Day

Tuesday, Nov. 13 is National Community Education in ISD 831.

It’s a one-day observance on the national stage, but in ISD 831 it will be a week-long celebration with a host of free classes and activities for adults and families.

Don’t know much about Community Education? This is your week to learn more as free classes and activities are being planned for adults, families and youth.

The following is a list of free classes and activities that will be offered.

For Adults

Keep Your Motor Running Automobile Maintenance 9289-F07, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Forest Lake High School (enter door 4) Room 117.

Cardio Kickboxing Sampler 7432-F07C, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 7-8 p.m., Southwest Jr. High, East Gym.

Aspirin is Not a Vitamin 7491-F07, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Central Learning Center (enter door 1) Room C8.

Bone Up on Osteoporosis 9589-F07, Thursday, Nov 15, 6:00-7:30 p.m., OSI Physical Therapy, 146 N. Lake Street.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) is always free! ABE offers brush up on basic skills such as reading, writing and math as well as assistance in preparing to take the GED tests. Call Kara at 651-982-8302 for information.

Yoga 9744-F07, Tuesday, Nov 13, 7:15-8:30 p.m., Forest Lake Elementary Room 131. The LINK program is offering a special Yoga class for adults with disabilities. Call Vicki at 651-982-8326 for information.

For Youth

School Age Care – Grades K-6 – You are invited to try one before or after school session at no charge. Call 651-982-8365 for more information and to register. Pre-registration is required.

Watch Me Draw – Grades K-6 – Students are invited to attend one free hour of class. Call Jenny Connolly, 651-982-8339, to schedule a visit.

Karaikido – Grades 5-12. Students are invited to attend one free hour of class. Call Jenny Connolly, 651-982-8339, to schedule a visit.

Teen Center – A free after school program designed for 7-9 graders! Open 2:15-5:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday. Call 651-982-8328 for more information.

For Families

Recreational Swim – anybody 50 inches or taller may swim for fun. If participants are under 50 inches, they must be accompanied in the water by a guardian and are free to bring lifejackets or water wings. Pool limit is 75 people. Friday, Nov 9, 7:30-8:30 p.m., Southwest Junior High Community Pool. No pre-registration is necessary.

Play Group ages birth to 5 years 2807-F07, Friday, Nov. 16, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Family Center, Central Learning Center, 200 SW 4th St. Parents and their children will enjoy a variety of activities. No pre-registration is necessary.

The Family Center Play Group meets most Fridays during the school year. Call 651-982-8300 for more information.
