Woodbury too much for Forest Lake -
Swimmers and divers lose, 96-80

After taking on both Stillwater and Cambridge-Isanti the previous week, the Forest Lake swimming and diving team had somewhat of a breather to start October, with just one meet on the schedule. The only catch was that it was at Woodbury.

As head coach Rochelle McKenzie stated, “Woodbury is really good!”

McKenzie put the Rangers through a tough week of practice, and overall, she felt her squad had a solid showing in the 96-80 loss.

“It’s important that they learn how to hold it together even when they don’t feel their best,” she added, “and they did very well.”

1st Place — 100 backstroke: Mary Walters

1st Place — 100 breaststroke: Sarah Williamson

2nd Place — 200 medley relay (Walters, Williamson, Erin Liljedahl and Darian Kaiser)

2nd Place — 200 free relay (Liljedahl, Williamson, Dahlager and Britt Berg)

3rd Place — 200 IM: Walters

3rd Place — 100 freestyle: Julianna Dahlager

“Anya Waskey posted yet another personal best in the 500 freestyle with a 6:09.62, which also qualifies her for sections,” McKenzie said. “She is really making some nice strides.”

Forest Lake is back at home on Thursday, Oct. 11 with a meet against White Bear Lake.

“Should be interesting, and no reason why we shouldn’t win,” McKenzie said. “It will be a fun meet to watch.”

DIVING

When head diving coach Deb Welch covered her groups performance, she begins to sound like the night was heavy on disappointment. But it couldn’t have been all that bad as Erin Eagen finished in first place.

“Woodbury was not one of our best meets of all-time but Erin came back out on top of the pack, once again,” Welch said.

The part where Welch would have liked to have seen more Rangers and less Royals was in places two through four. Woodbury occupied those spots, as Forest Lake’s Allie Bey came in fifth, and Scotti Sampair finished in 6th place.

“The divers are putting a lot of new dives in the water right now, and new dives can be fun, exciting, scary and complete bombs,” Welch explained. “But now is the time of year to see just what we are made of. We are now more than half way through the season and we are looking forward to some fun meets coming up.”
