A 14-2 regular season record was an excellent way for the Forest Lake tennis team to prepare for the Section 7AA tournament, as the girls drew the top seed for the playoffs.
Head coach Greg Patchin said it basically came down to a coin flip between the Rangers and Elk River, but now the goal is to qualify for state.
The process began on Monday afternoon, when North Branch stuck around just long enough to be completely overwhelmed by the Rangers, 7-0.
“It was an easy win and I think we played well after three excellent days of practice last week,” Patchin said.
The victory moved Forest Lake into a second-round match on Tuesday, Oct. 9, against Chisago Lakes. Back in August, Patchin watched his crew take care of Chisago Lakes, 7-0.
“Today’s quarterfinal match with Chisago presents a bigger challenge, but I think the girls are ready,” he shared on Tuesday. “Right now, all 10 girls are hitting at a high level and that is the key to our run.”
