Old bowling alley building is history

For more than 40 years, the Town ‘N Country Bowling Alley on US-61 south in Forest Lake was a landmark of sorts for the business strip, but no more. Demolition crews were busy on Monday and Tuesday, tearing away at the block and steel building. The building has been unoccupied since the bowling alley went out of business in 2000. The bowling alley on S. Lake St. opened in 1961 and served that purpose for 39 years. Plans to remodel the structure for a new commercial purpose or secure a new bowling alley for the facility have long faded. Now the building is giving away for a new commercial development that will provide retail space. (Photo By Cliff Buchan)
