Faith Lutheran brunch will feature Ann Zemke

Ann Zemke, a Minnesota author, will be speaking at a From the Heart brunch at Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m.

Zemke, a nationally known speaker, will be speaking about a unique time in American history and through her hand crafted commemorative quilt tell an extraordinary personal story.

Zemke’s grandmother Marjorie Peterson was born in 1898, abandoned at a church home in St. Paul, adopted as an infant and then sent to an orphanage in Owatonna.

In 1906 she traveled by orphan train to Bertha, MN. After her death, her diary has found and Ann was written her story.

Zemke’s book, They Named Me Marjorie, tells the tale of Peterson’s travels and also discusses the history behind the orphan train.

Zemke also created a commemorative quilt that highlights Peterson’s life.

Minnesota history is part of the 6th grade curriculum and Faith Lutheran Church would like to see women and girls of all ages attend the event.

There will be special music, great food and quilts on display. Everyone will leave with their own quilted gift.

Zemke’s signed book will also be available for purchase.

Tickets are $6 and the deadline to purchase tickets is Sunday, Oct. 14.
