Wyoming studies tree preservation

The Tuesday, Sept. 25th meeting of the Wyoming Township Board concentrated on the amendment of the town zoning ordinance concerning tree preservation provisions.
Wyoming Township Planning Commission member Sean Wagner said the commission has been working on this amendment for well over a year and has done extensive research to come up with a final document.
The purpose of the amendment is to bring the ordinance in line with the comprehensive plan.
It is felt that the integrity of the rural concept, the fabric of the community, preservation of wildlife corridors and protection of significant woodlands, beside knitting a togetherness with boundary locales are reasons people are coming to this area to live and do business.
The two main parts of the ordinance are woodland preservation and landscaping.
It is meant to encourage developers to preserve the rural character with appropriate balance. It will only apply to future development or if an existing landowner requests a building permit for some kind of a drastic addition or change to the property.
It is meant to address new commercial, non-residential plots and sub-divisions. It is not likely that a person buying a single parcel would be affected by the amendment.
In some cases, it might be necessary to clear and replace or plant new trees but local nurseries have landscape architects available to help developers.
After much explanation and discussion, the town board unanimously adopted the amendment. A copy of the ordinance is available at the Wyoming Township Hall.
The township is waiting to learn if the Minnesota Supreme Court will be hearing the contesting of the claims of Stacy and Chisago City in the matter of annexation.
The combined Wyoming City/Wyoming Township Comprehensive Plan Task Force had its first meeting recently that went very well.
A second meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11th at the Wyoming Township Hall.
It is hoped the public will show an interest in this session and attend the meeting.
