After an extended break, the girls cross country team covered a lot of ground last weekend, as Forest Lake sent its junior varsity to the Mustang Invitational on Friday, Sept. 28, and the varsity to the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota on Saturday.

“The girls did well at the Mustang (Invite),” head coach Eric Kaluza shared. “Particularly Jessica Sudo, who ran a personal best time, and Christy Newell who keeps getting better and better each meet.”

Kaluza also saluted Amber Anderson as well as Holly Winberg. Winberg finished in ninth place in what was called the Green Race of Friday’s meet, with a time of 17:32.

“Look for her to move up as the year continues,” Kaluza noted.

Saturday’s big race at the University of Minnesota turned out to be a wet course, and the girls finished in 36th place with 890 points. Greeley West from Colorado took first with 125 points.

The Rangers will compete on Thursday, Oct. 4 at Blaine and travel to Duluth East on Saturday.
