Grafft, Rapheal, Bresin, Kieger lead the way in District 831 School Board primary election
Incumbent Forest Lake School Board members Joe Grafft, Rob Rapheal, Bill Bresin and Dan Kieger were the top vote getters in Tuesday's primary election that narrowed the slate of candidates from 11 to eight who now advance to the Nov. 6 general election ballot. Tuesday's vote eliminated candidates James Heck, Jackie McNamara and Kenneth Engler.
Grafft was the highest vote getter with 996. He was followed by Rapheal with 990, Bresin with 980 and Kieger with 975.
Also advancing in the ISD 831 primary contest are the following candidates: Dick Tschida, 319; Linda Yeager, 278; John Freed, 277; and Jim Banta, 230. Heck received 163 votes but did not make the final field of eight candidates. McNamara, who earlier announced she was not actively running in the contest, picked up 101 votes. Engler received 74 votes.
As of late Tuesday, the election totals remain unofficial. The school board will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday to canvas the ballots and approve resolutions accepting the results of the primary vote and calling for the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Four school board seats for four-year terms will be up for election.
