Police in Forest Lake continue to investigate a stolen auto report that came 12 hours after the car had been involved in a pursuit.
Chief of Police Clark Quiring said a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt valued at more than $19,000 was reported stolen by Donald F. Zerwas III, 25, of 708 SW 12th St. Zerwas reported the theft at 1 p.m. on Sunday and told police the car had been taken from the parking lot at the Forest Laker, 131 N. Lake St.
Earlier in the day at 12:25 a.m., police attempted to stop the car for a traffic offense. When the car would not stop, police pursued the vehicle in the southwest residential area but lost it near The Ballpark at Schumacher Field.
Several minutes later the vehicle was found abandoned near the tennis court at Southwest Junior High School, 943 SW 9th Ave.
Quiring said the vehicle received a broken front left wheel after driving over the curb. The driver was not found, the chief said.
Felony arrest
A man from Chicago was arrested in Forest Lake on Thursday, Sept. 6 on two outstanding felony warrants issued by courts in Illinois and in Ramsey County in Minnesota.
Police were called to the parking lot at Wal-Mart, 200 SW 12th St., at 1 p.m. on Thursday for a disturbance where a father and son were arguing. After intervening in that incident, police were alerted to the involvement of a third man who had walked away from the two who were arguing as police arrived.
Forest Lake officers located the man north of Wal-Mart near McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken where he was detained. He was arrested for probable cause of felony possession of a controlled substance and giving false information to a police officer. The man carried a duffle bag that contained nine bindles or small packages of marijuana, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said.
The man gave two false names to officers before providing his correct identification of Antonio C. McCray, 20, of Chicago, IL, and 1239 Herbert, St. Paul.
Forest Lake police said McCray had active warrants for a felony assault in Illinois and felony domestic assault by strangulation in Ramsey County for an incident there in mid-August. The warrant was issued in Ramsey County after McCray failed to appear for a District Court hearing, police said.
Police said no charges were issued to the father and son who were the first contacts. Police said the initial disturbance involved the father attempting to get his son to come home.
