Runners start season with great times

Even though it wasn’t a Suburban East Conference meet, it took all of one competition for the Forest Lake boys cross country team to take fourth place — their most familiar finish over the course of the 2006 season.

Here we go again?

Probably not, as head coach Deno Johnson had his group training, training and training some more during the four days leading up to the Tuesday, Aug. 28 event.

“Overall we’re pleased with our results,” Johnson said of his team’s 113 points. “It’s always a tough field for the first race.”

While the competition may have had its share of quality running schools, the Rangers were able to come off their four-day running binge and turn in fantastic numbers.

“Our top four boys were close to their best times ever. It’s a good indicator that we are ahead of last year in terms of fitness,” Johnson said.

As expected, it was senior Ben Brodin and junior Zach

Waldoch, or Waldoch and Brodin, pacing Forest Lake.

“The front running of Brodin and Waldoch was promising,” Johnson said. “We’ll be looking forward to more of that in the future.”

Top Five Rangers with Overall Finish:

7. Waldoch - 17:11

11. Brodin - 17:15

23. Nate Moen -17:49

25. Ryan Wright - 17:52

45. Andrew Orth - 18:45
