Columbus Fall Fest plans unfold

Plans are unfolding for the annual Columbus City Fall Fest, slated this year for Saturday, Sept. 22.

This year’s event will be even more special as it marks the 150th anniversary of Columbus and Anoka County.

A full day of events are planned from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Columbus City Hall Center, 16319 Kettle River Blvd. The day’s events will be capped at dusk with a fireworks display.

The Sesquicentennial celebration gets underway with an official ceremony at 10 a.m., kicking off many of the day’s events.

A formal program is planned at 3 p.m., featuring guests speakers Sen. Ray Vandeveer and Rep. Bob Dettmer, both of Forest Lake, plus city and county officials.

The color guard from American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake will be on hand to present a special flag to the city of Columbus recognizing the 150th anniversary.

The headline events on Sept. 22 include a car show and old farm machinery exhibit, a historical photo display from Anoka County, loom and apple press demonstrations, square dancing and story telling by the elders of Columbus.
