HSI to offer transportation services in FL, Hugo

It has been said, “…you can’t get there from here” in many homes, businesses, churches and schools.

In the areas of Forest Lake and Hugo this has been especially true.

Limited service has been available through the Human Services Inc. Transporter, however they have been hearing from the community there is a growing need.

Fortunately, HSI is embarking on an expansion project that will increase services in the area.

They will provide paratransit – door through door –service to those who find themselves unable to provide or access their own means of transportation.

HSI is hoping this initiative will accomplish two things. One, provide more transit access to those in need and two, bring the level of awareness of the need for greater fixed route services to the region.

Through a grant from the Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation, the HSI Transporter will be able to dedicate service to the Forest Lake and Hugo areas. This service is a shared ride system.

HSI is hoping to help people who live in Forest Lake, Hugo and surrounding areas to access their communities and to access connections to services that will allow them even greater access to the rest of the metro area.

The HSI Transporter started September 4.

Looking for a ride to an appointment, work, church or school? Would you like to meet a friend for lunch? Go to the library? Give HSI a call 651-275-4300 and let them help you.

HSI Transporter will expand services to those needing a ride to connect with their community.

Rides will be provided between the hours of 8 a.m. through 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a fare of $2.50 per way and $3.50 during peak hours of 8-9 a.m. and 3-4 p.m.
