Weekend races to honor Lino Lakes officer Shawn Silvera

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, the second annual Officer Shawn Silvera Memorial Run will take place at the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve in Lino Lakes.

The run is to commemorate Silvera who was killed in the line of duty on September 6, 2005, leaving behind a wife and two young children.

With a variety of activities for families and races for all ages, this event will celebrate his life and family.

Interested participants can register for three different events including the 5K race, the 2K Family Fun Walk, or the Daisy Dash for kids. For those who are not racing or walking, there will also be face painting, a coloring contest and much more.

Registration for the 5K race runs from 7 to 8:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m. Registration for both the Daisy Dash and the 2K Family Walk will run from 7 to 9:45 a.m. The Daisy Dash will begin at 10 a.m. and the 2K Family Fun Walk will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Awards will be given to winners in various age groups. The race results will be posted on www.andersonraces.com.

Entry fees for participants 13 and older are $20 before the race and $25 the day of the race. Entry fees for participants 12 and under are $8 before the race and $10 the day of the race. Race fees include a commemorative T-shirt.

Silvera embodied the powerful message carried by the words “Be Here Now-Live the Importance of Today,” savoring daily moments, relishing opportunities to learn and appreciating his gift to help someone in need.

It is for these reasons that Silvera is being honored with this event and look to his example to continue the care for his family.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Shawn Silvera Memorial Fund and charities selected by Officer Silvera’s family.

Online race registration is available at www.active.com until September 12. More information can also be viewed at www.shawnsilvera.org.
