Taco Daze Dodgeball Tourney
There’s still time to sign up for the third annual Taco Daze Dodgeball Tournament, sponsored by the city of Scandia Park and Recreation Committee. The tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Scandia Community Center. Divisions playing in the morning: Adults, 10-12 graders. Divisions playing in the afternoon: 7-9 graders, 5-6 graders and 3-4 graders. Teams must be composed of six to eight people, with a minimum of two women/girls. Each team will be guaranteed three officiated games. Pre-registration is required. Registration forms and Dodgeball rules are available on the city’s website (www.ci.scandia.mn.us). The cost per team is $30; $40 after Sept. 5, 2007. FL Hoops Club Basketball Tryouts
The Forest Lake Hoops Club will be holding free basketball tryouts for their competitive traveling teams in both A and B levels. Tryouts for boys in grades five through nine will be held the week of September 10. Tryouts for girls in grades five through nine will be held the week of September 17. Skilled fourth graders are also invited to tryout for the teams. The competitive traveling season will run from late October to mid March and roughly nine to 12 tournaments are expected through out the season. The cost for each tournament is $20. The Forest Lake Area Schools Community Education Youth Athletics Program is holding a volleyball registration night on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the Central Learning Center Cafeteria. Participants may also register at www.communityed4u.org, or by calling 651-982-8110. The registration deadline is September 12. The elementary volleyball program is open to girls currently in grades 3 – 6. Practices begin September 17 and games run from October 1 through November 19. Community Education is always looking for volunteer coaches. If you are willing to coach volleyball this fall, please call the Athletic Coordinator at 651-982-8320, or come to registration night and speak with a Youth Athletics representative.
'Dance Your Heart Out' Sept. 15
Join the Forest Lake dance team at the Seventh Annual Dance Your Heart Out Clinic Fundraiser. The clinic is for children ages Pre-K to 8th grade and runs 9 a.m. - noon on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Forest Lake High School. The show will follow at 12:30 p.m. The kids will perform at halftime of the varsity football game. Brett earns scholastic honor roll
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has named 305 UW-Eau Claire athletes to its 2006-07 Scholastic Honor Roll, marking a school record for the award. To receive the honor, an athlete must have a 3.0 (B) or better GPA and complete a minimum of 24 credits for the academic year. This year, 133 men and 172 women were named for the award, representing all 22 sports. Ashley Brett (Gymnastics-Forest Lake Forest Lake) was named for the fourth time.
