Bridge beams set

Huge beams that will be used to form the decking for the new Broadway Avenue bridge over I-35 in Forest Lake were set in place starting Sunday night. In all, 32 of the huge concrete beams, each 100 feet long and weighing 100,000 pounds, were set with the help of two huge cranes that lifted them from semi trucks. The beam setting was slated to be completed Wednesday night, weather permitting. It’s been a major week of progress for the Broadway Improvement Project. Paving along the south side of Broadway from 7th Street west to the freeway ramps was also completed. The new Broadway bridge is still on target for a late October finish. (Photo by Cliff Buchan)
