It has been a dream season for the Forest Lake Dance Team, and the squad is kicking it up a notch as it looks to clinch its first Suburban East Conference championship.

The team leads the conference in both kick and jazz through two of three SEC meets. Last week, the Rangers increased the difficulty of their kick routine in three spots, and they will do the same to their jazz routine soon.

The challenging moves played a role in a seventh-place kick finish at the 10-team Henry Sibley Invitational on Saturday. Forest Lake earned the third-place trophy in the jazz category.

“We can do better and the team knows we have to have a great week of practice in order to bring those scores back up, now that the routines are more difficult,” said coach Cheryl Smoczyk.

The JV team impressed by placing third in each routine.

Chanhassen won both varsity events, as well as JV kick. Henry Sibley won in JV jazz.

The team will perform at this Friday’s home basketball game. The girls will be selling “Pit Crew” T-shirts that go along with their racing-themed kick routine. The shirts cost $5 and fans are encouraged to wear them to the final SEC dance meet, which Forest Lake will host on Monday, Jan. 23.

The Rangers will look to clinch the conference title that night. The first 20 students through the doors on the 23rd will get a free T-shirt.
