Mustangs kick past FL swimmers

They did not win any events, but the Forest Lake boys’ swim team hung close in most of them in a Suburban East Conference dual meet with Mounds View last Thursday. The visiting Mustangs earned a 99-79 victory, dropping the Rangers to 2-1 in league action.

Forest Lake took second in four individual events. Junior Joe Goossens did so in the 50 free (24.07) and the 100 free (53.00). Junior Zach Burger earned second place with 114.10 points in the diving competition, while junior Joel Stomberg was the runner-up in the 500 free with a time of 5:32.71.

The following set new personal-best times while scoring points: Stomberg in the 200 free (1:57.94), sophomore Adam Krummi in the 200 free (2:04.04), senior Nate Merrier in the 50 free (24.97) and ninth-grader Corey Bahr in the 100 fly (1:01.79).

Forest Lake kicked off a busy week by hosting Stillwater this Tuesday. The Rangers swim at East Ridge tonight (Jan. 12) and take part in the True Team Section meet in Coon Rapids on Saturday.
