Open water marked

Unseasonably warm temperatures are hindering nature from making more ice on Forest Lake. On Tuesday morning, Forest Lake Fire and Rescue deployed its new air boat and set out to mark locations where open water has been spotted. “We’ve got some holes,” Fire Chief Gary Sigfrinius relayed to Washington County. He advises the public against driving motorized vehicles on the ice. Sigfrinius discourages people from randomly riding ATV’s and snowmobiles because, he said, “open water is popping up all over the lake.” Firefighter Sean Thomas dropped 12 cones on the ice surface to mark an area near the channel on the west side of Second Lake. There’s a danger the snowfall that’s forecasted for later this week could cover up the open water which wouldn’t be visible. (Photo by Jennifer Mevissen)
