FLDT cracks top half of tough Blaine field
Forest Lake Dance Team earned the best finish it has ever taken at the Blaine Invitational over the weekend. The Rangers used scores in the 70s to break into the top 10 in both categories at the 19-team meet. FLDT took eighth in jazz and ninth in kick.
“To say I was excited would be an understatement!” said coach Cheryl Smoczyk.
Defending state champion Maple Grove won the jazz competiton and St. Cloud Tech surprised the field by winning in kick.
Forest Lake is up against more state-level competition this weekend at Wayzata, then hosts the Suburban East Conference championships next Monday, Jan. 23. Doors open at 5 p.m. and FLDT dances first at 6 p.m. in jazz. The first 20 students in the door will get free ‘pit crew’ themed T-shirts. It is also the team’s teacher appreciation night.
