Falls keep alpine teams in middle of SEC

Boys took sixth, girls fifth last week

Falls cost the Ranger alpine ski teams points as they finished in the middle of the pack at the third Suburban East Conference meet of the season. The boys took sixth and the girls fifth at Afton Alps last Tuesday.

Only seven boys made it down the hill, but five of them placed in the top 32. Riley Schilling returned from a knee injury to lead the team with a combined time of 1:02.95, good for 21st place. Joe Alberg finished next, just 0.31 seconds off Schilling’s time. Marty Longsdorf (25th, 1:03.64), Jake Bush (27th, 1:03.76) and David Herman (32nd, 1:04.37) all finished within one second.

Zach Ochsenbauer (56th, 1:22.15) and Chris Wallner (72nd, 1:42.79) also scored for Forest Lake. Max Stangler, Cody Eggers and Nathan Patterson fell and were disqualified.

Overall, 18 of the 94 competitors did not finish. Stillwater took first place by 18 points over East Ridge.

The Ranger girls only had one fall, but the four teams ahead of them had none. Mounds View and Stillwater tied for the team win.

Krista Kirchner produced another top-10 showing. She placed eighth out of 88 entrants with a time of 1:01.98. Kellie Welch again finished second on the team. Her time of 1:04.80 earned 17th place. Maddi Gemunden put together two even runs and took 33rd in 1:08.93.

Maggie Longsdorf had her best race of the season en route to placing 46th in 1:11.47. Sydney Norcross (48th, 1:12.39) and Melissa Mackey (50th, 1:12.72) had similar showings.

Sydney Halley (54th, 1:12.72), Samantha Kramer (60th, 1:20.27) and Katie Goulding (75th, 1:32.38) also scored. Elli Rodsjo sat in 52nd after the first run but did not finish her second run.
