With a couple of varsity regulars out sick, the Ranger swim team could not match up with Hastings in a road dual meet last Thursday. The Raiders led by as many as 22 points in the 86-79 win.
Forest Lake swimmers won both of the freestyle sprint events. Bryan Fleming won the 50 free with a time of 24.36, while Joe Goossens took the 100 free in 53.51. Nate Merrier’s personal-best time 1:07.70 was the fastest recorded in the 100 breaststroke. Fleming, Goossens, Corey Bahr and Joel Stomberg won the 400 free relay in 3:34.78.
Second-place finishes came from Goossens in the 200 free (1:57.93), Erik Klein in the 100 backstroke (1:01.10) and the 200 free relay team of Klein, Stomberg, Bahr and Fleming (1:38.02).
Last season, the Rangers and Raiders tied, clinching a winning Suburban East Conference record for Forest Lake. This year’s loss puts the Rangers at 3-5 in the SEC heading into tonight’s (Feb. 9) regular-season finale at home versus Cretin-Derham Hall.
