Swimmers close SEC season with loss

The Forest Lake swim team closed out the regular season with a loss to Cretin-Derham Hall last Thursday.

The visiting Raiders bolted out to a 33-13 lead and held off a Ranger charge to win the meet 95-75. Forest Lake cut the lead to four after strong showings in the 50 free and the 100 fly. Sophomore Bryan Fleming won both of the back-to-back events, finishing the first one in a personal-best time of 23.76 and the second in 58.62. He also led off the 400 free relay team which took first place in 3:31.47.

Forest Lake’s other win came from Erik Klein, on the night he was honored as one of the team’s three seniors (Nate Merrier and foreign exchange student Jan Schlenker being the others). Klein won the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.42.

Junior Joel Stomberg scored personal bests while placing second in both the 100 (52.10) and 200 free (1:55.71). Sophomore Stefan Albright’s time of 59.51 in the 100 fly was a personal best and earned second place.

The Ranger boys finished the Suburban East Conference schedule with a record of 3-6.

Next up is the Section 7AA meet which will take place next Thursday through Saturday at Northdale Middle School in Coon Rapids. The conference JV meet is set for this Saturday noon in Stillwater.
