The Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce/City of Forest Lake 2012 Medallion Hunt is officially underway as part of the 2nd annual FLake Festival.

An inscribed acrylic medallion, worth $500 to its finder, is hidden in a Forest Lake City Park (other than Lakeside Memorial Park or Fenway Park). Clues as to the whereabouts of the medallion will be posted each day at 8 a.m. online at www.forestlakeparks.net, www.forestlaketimes.com and the chamber page (www.flacc.org) until Saturday, Feb. 25.

Clue #1-Feb. 18:

The time’s come around.

Where will it be found?

This year when no snow has come down.

You might find some white,

But that wouldn’t be right.

More likely your view will be brown.

Clue #2-Feb. 19:

Cash is good, there’s no doubt,

but it’s nothing without,

The richness of nature outside

Take a break for a swing.

It’s feeling like spring.

Might be tricky to go down this slide

Clue #3-Feb. 20:

Success, it is true,

Starts with point of view.

Have you figured out what yours will be?

Are you up looking down or down looking up?

Makes a difference in what you can see?

Clue #4-Feb. 21:

For a search that’s effective,

You must be selective.

Don’t be swayed by what’s lying about.

This prize does not hide

In debris cast aside.

Give a hand and throw litter out.

Clue #5-Feb. 22:

This hunting’s tough stuff.

If you’ve had enough,

Take a break, bring a lunch, have a rest.

These features are nice,

But don’t look at them twice.

Searching elsewhere, I think, would be best.

In order to claim the $500 prize, the medallion hunter must have purchased a commemorative button. Buttons are being sold at local Forest Lake retailers.

Each person who buys a button will be eligible for a second $500 prize, which will be given away by raffle on at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24 at Vannelli’s by the Lake.

FLake Fest draws to a close

The Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Progressive Dinner from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23. Enjoy appetizers at Stella’s on 97, a dinner at Vannelli’s and finish with dessert in Wyoming at the Village Inn. Don’t worry about driving to each location; catch the party bus and ride with other community people. The cost is $40 per person; tickets are available at the Chamber office.

The Forest Lake Area Athletic Association has organized a softball tournament on the ice Saturday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a bonfire on the beach at Lakeside Memorial Park from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25.
