Hockey season ends with overtime loss

A back-and-forth, high-scoring section semifinal thrilled those in attendance at Amsoil Arena in Duluth on Saturday, but it ended in heartbreak for the Ranger hockey boys. Forest Lake fell 7-6 in overtime to No. 15 Andover.

The second-seeded Huskies pulled out to a 4-2 lead halfway through the game, but the Rangers scored three powerplay goals in the second period to take a 5-4 lead heading into the third period. Andover again took the lead before a late goal by Brandon Rogers tied it at 6-6.

Andover’s Davis Tollette scored the game-winner 5:22 into overtime. The Huskies advance to face No. 1 Duluth East in Thursday’s Section 7AA championship. Forest Lake ends the year with a record of 12-14-1.
