Jessica Dhaene is getting the swing of this whole state competition. The Forest Lake junior made her third consecutive individual state appearance on Saturday, placing 16th all-around.

Dhaene’s uneven bars, floor and vault routine were also part of those individual event competitions. She fared best in what has traditionally been her best event: the bars. She qualified for state only on bars in 2010 and 2011. Her three performances there have been strikingly similar. This year’s score of 9.325 is the best of the three and earned 15th place out of 32 competitors. She scored 9.3 (14th place) as a ninth-grader and 9.275 (16th) as a sophomore.

Her high vault score of 9.425 earned 19th place. She placed 27th on floor with a score of 9.2.

North St. Paul senior Julia Stedman won the all-around competition with a total of 38.4. Dhaene scored a career-best 36.625.
