Cindy Reichert, manager of Anoka County Elections and Voter Registration, has informed Linwood Township officials of 2012 elections change. There are some changes for Linwood residents who plan to vote by absentee ballot.

Absentee ballots will be available by mail or in-person during the 45 days before each election.

A change this year is that voters may vote in person at the polling place where they reside and also on the Saturday before each election from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and until 5 p.m. the day before each election.  Absentee balloting period for the Tuesday, Aug. 14 primary elections run from Friday, June 29 through Monday, Aug. 13.

For the Tuesday, Nov. 6 general election, absentee balloting will take place between Friday, Sept. 21 and Monday, Nov. 5.

Since Town Clerk Judy Hanna’s position is on the ballot this year and she runs for reelection, she cannot assist with the in-person absentee voting, and training office staff or paying election judges to cover all the hours would be too expensive. Therefore, the city of Columbus has agreed to do the in-person absentee balloting for Linwood Township.

Residents interested in voting by absentee by mail ballot, can call 763-323-5275 to have an application sent to them. They may also download the application; www.anokacounty.us/abseneevoting.
