Schools resume normal activity following containment situation

Following precautionary containment due to a possible external threat, normal activity resumed at five Forest Lake schools and the ISD 831 office after an all-clear from the Forest Lake Police Department around 3:40 this afternoon. At the advice of police, the district activated containment procedures around 2:55 p.m. at Forest Lake High School, Century Junior High, Forest Lake Elementary, Forest View Elementary, the Central Learning Center and the district office. FLPD’s request was prompted by sightings of a suspicious individual in the vicinity of several schools.

After about 45 minutes, police informed the district that the emergency was over. Normal operations ensued, though buses from Forest View and Forest Lake elementaries were delayed by a few minutes.

“…This situation was due to a possible external threat, and at no time did the individual in question enter any of our buildings or put any of our students or staff at risk,” said ISD 831 Superintendent Linda Madsen in a statement released to parents of students. “We are pleased to report that our staff responded quickly and appropriately to the request by police.”
