Anderson lands Athena Award

FLHS senior honored for athletic achievement

Forest Lake High School senior Sam Anderson is among 39 young women who will receive the St. Paul Area Athena Award at an April 18 ceremony in Oakdale. The program, now in its 18th year, honors local females for outstanding achievement in athletics.

Anderson is the daughter of Dan and Karen Anderson of Forest Lake. She has earned four varsity letters in track and field and two in basketball. The future UW-Eau Claire student has been named to the first-team all-conference track team twice and was also an honorable mention pick once. She has competed in the state shot put competition twice and in the discus throw once.

Anderson has made the A Honor Roll, is a member of the National Honor Society and has volunteered at St. Peter’s Church.

KARE 11 news director Jane Helmke will keynote the awards ceremony, and KARE 11 sports anchor Randy Shaver will be the emcee. The Athena Awards Committee is comprised of representatives of St. Paul city and suburban schools, parents of previous award winners and business volunteers.
