Track boys third at U of M
Forest Lake came out of the gates hot at the season-opening Minnesota High School Indoor Classic at the University of Minnesota on Saturday. The Rangers used a balanced attack to place third out of 15 schools. Fellow Suburban East Conference member White Bear Lake claimed the title with 48 points. Forest Lake scored 40, one-half point behind Owatonna.
Junior Glen Miron and senior Bennen Bierman claimed the top two spots in the shot put. Miron reached 46-11 1/2, while Bierman’s final toss traveled 46-6 1/2.
Senior Tommy Tyson leapt to second in the long jump with a distance of 19-10. Teammate Preston Huddleston was close behind with a mark of 19-4 1/2, good for fourth place.
Tyson also reached the finals in the 60-meter dash, where he placed fifth with a time of 7.35 seconds.
Fourth-place finishes came from senior Aaron Egelkraut in the 60 hurdles (8.95) and senior Pat Moran in the triple jump (39-10).
Junior Jacob Jankowski took fifth in the 3200 with a time of 10:16, while senior Joe Jackson took sixth in the 1600 in 4:34.66.
In the relays, Forest Lake took third in the 4×400 (3:39.53) and fourth in the 1600 sprint medley (3:51.10).
The Rangers took part in the Pony Relays in Stillwater this Wednesday and head to Woodbury tonight, April 5. Next Tuesday is the Osceola (WI) Invitational.
