Project to move through Lindstrom and Center City
Road construction is set to begin on US-Highway 8 in Lindstrom between Shoquist Lane and Irene Ave. on Monday, April 16, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this week.
Construction crews will separate eastbound and westbound US-8 into a “one-way Pair” in downtown Lindstrom between Linden and Elm Streets. Highway 8 (Lake Boulevard) will carry eastbound traffic, and 1st Ave. will carry westbound traffic when completed.
Other features of the project include building a new bridge spanning the channel connecting North Lindstrom and South Lindstrom lakes, installing new traffic signals along US-8 at CR-14 (Lincoln Road), CR-20 (North Lakes Trail), CR-25 (Olinda Trail) and Akerson Street.
Frontage roads planned in some areas will improve safety by removing direct driveway access to US-8, and trails and sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of US-8 between CR-14 and Akerson Street.
A portion of the Swedish Immigrant Trail from CR-14 to Dew Drop Lane in Center City also lies within the project area.
Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the project.
When complete, the project will address capacity, mobility and safety issues in the area.
The construction project will be completed in June 2013.
