Democrats endorse in 39

Democrats in new Senate District 39 endorsed three candidates by acclamation at its District Convention at Stillwater Junior High School Saturday, March 31. Delegates endorsed Julie Bunn, former state legislator from Lake Elmo, for the State Senate, John Bruno, Lindstrom, for House seat 39A and Tom DeGree, Lake Elmo, for House Seat 39B. The new District 39 includes Franconia Township, Shafer, Forest Lake, Scandia, May Township, Marine on St. Croix, Grant, Pine Springs, Stillwater, Lake Elmo, Oak Park Heights, Baytown Township, Bayport, West Lakeland Township, Lakeland, Lakeland Shores, Lake St. Croix Beach and St. Mary’s Point. A part of District 39 is now in the new Fourth Congressional District and U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum received lengthy applause and a standing ovation when she spoke to the crowd. Other parts of District 39 are in the Sixth and the Eighth Congressional Districts.

    Senator Ray Vandeveer, Representative Bob Dettmer and Representative Kathy Lohmer all were endorsed by acclimation at the Republican convention as well.
