Forest Lake Area Relay For Life will kick-off its 19th annual fundraising season on Monday, April 23.
The event will be held at Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Forest Lake starting at 7 p.m. Relay organizers will unveil the 2012 Relay plans, give away door prizes and send teams out to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
“Once again we start with zero dollars in our accounts and this year our goal is $112,000 in 2012,” said Nancy Rosman, local Relay chairperson.
“Forest Lake and the surrounding communities have been generous for 18 years,” she said. “We thank you so very much for the support. Together we can reach that goal and continue to make advances in defeating cancer once and for all,” Rosman said.
Relay For Life is an all-volunteer group that actively fundraises for the American Cancer Society which supports families battling any type of cancer. Relay teams, comprised of up to 15 people, fundraise all summer long with each member raising at least $150. Teams in Forest Lake Area Relay have been award winning, averaging over $4,000 a team.
On Aug. 3, all the teams gather at the high school track for 12 hours of celebration and remembrance. Lap for lap, mile for mile, the American Cancer Society is helping families celebrate more birthdays together.
Recruit a team from your company, organization or neighborhood and join the excitement of raising money to fight cancer and save lives.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, raising community awareness as well as funding for patient support, research, advocacy and community education.
The Forest Lake event is one of the top in Minnesota. This year’s grand total will be added to the $2 million raised to date.
