May Township receives county road funds

May Township is among townships in Washington County to receive more than $83,000 from Washington County to help maintain township roads. May Township’s share from the 2012 Town Road Account is $16,981.65. The road account was created to assist townships in the construction, reconstruction and gravel maintenance of town roads. The revenue comes from the Highway Users Tax Distribution Fund, which is comprised of motor fuel tax (gas tax); motor vehicle tax (license tab fees); motor vehicle fee (title fee); motor vehicle sales tax (sales tax when a vehicle is sold); and interest. State law requires that counties are the agents responsible for the distribution of these funds. The amount sent to each county is based on the percentage of miles of town road in each county, relative to the total town road miles in the state.
