Golfers swing to seventh at first two SEC meets

The Ranger girls’ golf team has placed seventh at each of the first two Suburban East Conference meets. Forest Lake opened the SEC season at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury last Thursday and also teed off at Stillwater Country Club this Monday.

Stillwater shot 161 for a 20-stroke win in the opener. Forest Lake tallied 200 to beat Hastings, Park and White Bear Lake. Ninth-grader Maggie Jeans carded 47, senior Katie Wick had 48 and junior Emily Proulx had 51. Senior Maddie Carey and seventh-grader Maddy Messin each shot 54.

Cretin-Derham Hall’s Celia Kuenster won medalist honors with a round of 37.

Stillwater routed the field again on Monday at its home course, topping Hastings by 26 strokes. Pony senior Cassie Deeg took medalist honors with a three-under round of 33.

Forest Lake shot 198 to beat Roseville, Park and White Bear Lake.

Wick, Proulx and junior Katelin Kruger each shot 49 and Messin shot 51.

The girls competed in the Elk River Invitational this Tuesday and a SEC match at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul on Wednesday. SEC action continues next Monday at North Oaks Country Club and next Tuesday at the White Bear Lake Invite. The Northfield Invitational is set for next Wednesday.
