How ribbons are won

Ribbons and medals are won at horse shows after many hours of dedicated practice and schooling. Even on the day of the event, young riders learn from their elders. Such was the case at the annual Forest Lake FFA Department Horse Show on Saturday at Dead Broke Arena in Hugo as riders from throughout the area took part in a series of events. One of the young contestants was Jamie Martin, 10, of Lake Elmo who was on hand with her horse, Neigh Neigh. Pictured above is proof that the hard work pays off as Jamie proudly displays her ribbon for a second-place finish in her western pleasure class. (Photo by Cliff Buchan)
