Boys beat Irondale for season’s first win
The Ranger boys’ lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season last Friday, and it came in the most exciting of fashions.
Andrew Egle notched the game-winner in triple overtime as Forest Lake won 6-5 at Irondale.
“Friday night was a real thrill for our team,” said coach Jon Loo. “We came from behind to force overtime by possessing the ball and working our offense to create great scoring opportunities.
“Last year, we lost to that team in overtime in exactly to same way – they came from behind to force overtime and beat us. So in addition to getting our first win of the season, it was nice to get one back after feeling like we gave it away last year.”
Loo said senior Tyler Nelson provided vocal leadership on the offensive end and junior Josh Mester won several key faceoffs down the stretch.
The Rangers could not carry the momentum over into this week, though. They fell 12-1 at Mounds View on Monday.
At home against Hastings last Wednesday, Forest Lake fell behind 4-1 after one quarter and went on to lose 8-4.
The team hosts Park this Wednesday, plays at Roseville next Monday and hosts Stillwater next Wednesday.
