No-hitter, grand slam for Rydell

Life has been good for Century Junior High ninth-grader Joe Rydell of late.

He is riding a wild wave of success on the baseball diamond. Rydell’s good fortune began on April 20, when he fired a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts against Roseville for coach Bill Porter’s ninth-grade Maroon squad.

“It was almost the opposite of what goes on in the upper levels; kids started talking about it in about the second inning,” Porter said.

Exactly a week later, Rydell popped a grand slam in a 16-8, extra-inning win at Oak-Land Junior High.

Finally, he tossed a one-hitter to lead Century to a five-inning victory against Park last Friday.

Joe, you are the man. Way to go, keep up the good work. Dad must be really proud of you. Will see you on the big stage some day in the near future. Keep making your family and Forest Lake proud of you.
