Youth Performing Art’s Senior High Workshop presents “Working” for its spring musical production in Forest Lake next week.
“Working” is a series of musical vignettes depicting the humor and drama of the everyday working woman and man.
Based on a book by Studs Terkel, and adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, “Working” is a musical collaboration of song writers including folksinger, James Taylor and Stephen Schwartz of “Godspell” and “Wicked” fame. Other songwriters are Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead.
Stories from a teacher, a waitress, a building contractor, a retiree, a housewife and a variety of other careers, create a storyline that anyone who has held a job can relate to and enjoy!
The music, under the direction of Maurya Laqua, includes songs that will tickle your funny bone and songs that will touch your heart.
All of this comes together for the public’s entertainment pleasure with a talented high school cast under the direction of Susan Swanson Novak, Shalee Dunaski, Vanessa Novak and Roxanne Johnson.
This show will be the final show for many YPA regulars who will be graduating this year. Neil Peterson, Morgan Sperry, Nick Harrington, Erin Kerrigan, Bri O’Gorman, and Garrison Shea have given years of talent and dedication to the YPA program.
Mark your calendars to come and see this wonderfully entertaining show! Performances are May 19th at 7 p.m. and May 20th at 3 and 7 p.m. at Forest Hills United Methodist Church.
