Golf girls remain in middle of SEC pack
The Ranger girls’ golf team followed up an encouraging showing at a large invitational last week with two conference matches that were par for the course.
Forest Lake has sat between fifth and seventh in Suburban East Conference events all season and remained there in the most recent action. The team shot 383 to place seventh out of 10 at a rare 18-hole SEC meet in Hastings on Monday. Katie Wick led the team with a round of 91. Katelin Kruger and Emily Proulx tied at 96, while Maddie Carey shot 100 even.
It was more of a struggle at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury last Thursday. Maggie Jeans led the team with a score of 48, while Carey had 49 and Proulx and Kate Schaaf each had 50 for a team score of 197. Team standings were not available.
The highlight of the week came at the Red Wing Invitational last Tuesday. Forest Lake carded its best 18-hole score of the season in an event featuring most of the state’s best teams. In fact, all six Ranger golfers shot under 100 on the day.
Schaaf impressed with a round of 87. Proulx (92), Jeans (93) and Madison Wohlberg (97) also scored.
“It was the first time all six have shot under 100, so we’ve got the potential,” said coach Andrea Brischke. “We just haven’t been able to play consistently yet.”
The Rangers play a conference meet at River Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove this Thursday, May 17. Monday’s SEC meet is home at Forest Hills Golf Club.
