Residents with hazardous materials stacking up in the garage and basement should make note of Saturday, June 2.

That’s the date for Washington County’s free one-day collection event for hazardous materials. Electronics will also be accepted on June 2.

The one-day event will be hosted at the Forest Lake Transit Center parking lot next door to the Washington County Headwaters Service Center, 19955 Forest Road N. The site will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is for households only. Proof of residency will be required.

Home improvement items accepted include latex paint and stain, oil-based paint, paint remover and thinner. Automotive and recreation items include antifreeze, used motor oil and filters, propane tanks and rechargeable batteries.

Yard and garden items accepted include insect, roach and ant killer, fertilizers and weed killers. Household items include mercury thermometers and thermostats, fluorescent bulbs and some cleaners.

The following electronics items can be dropped off with no charge: computers and monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, printers, microwaves, televisions, DVD and VCR players and recorders, FAX machines and cell phones.

Two late summer collections events are also planned in Forest Lake by Washington County. They will take place on two Saturdays, Sept. 8 and Sept. 15. A third event will also take place in Hugo at the Hugo Public Works Building on Saturday, Sept. 29.
