A male who robbed the TCF Bank office on W. Broadway Avenue in Forest Lake on Friday managed to escape a police dragnet. Forest Lake Police Department Capt. Greg Weiss said a ground and air search for the man was halted after about an hour following the 12:30 p.m. robbery.
That search concentrated on the area north of W. Broadway Avenue where the man was last seen after leaving the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter assisted local police and the FBI in that search.
Weiss said it is likely the man had a car waiting near Burger King where he was last seen. With the man likely gone from the area and no threat to the public, the search was called off, Weiss said.
Weiss said the case is now under full investigation by the FBI with local authorities assisting.
The Forest Lake officer said it is not certain at this time if the man has any connection to previous bank robberies in the metro area. “The FBI did not recognize him (from security video) at the bank,” Weiss said.
Anyone with information about the bank robbery or the suspect is asked to the call Forest Lake police at 651-464-5877.
