Columbus meets recycling goal

Of the Anoka County’s 21 municipalities, the city of Columbus was one of the 13 to meet or exceeded their 2011 recycling goals. Anoka County residents recycled 32,626 tons of materials in 2011, exceeding their goal by 11.2 percent. Andover, Bethel, Circle Pines, Columbia Heights, Columbus, Coon Rapids, Ham Lake, Hilltop, Lexington, Lino Lakes, Nowthen, Ramsey and Spring Lake Park all reached their recycling goals.

A Lino Lakes couple was named “Recycling Champions” for their outstanding efforts and dedication to recycling.  Ed and Mary Hemauer pick up and recycle aluminum cans and other materials on their almost-daily walks in Lino Lakes and the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park.
