Top-seeded Forest Lake has yet to be tested in the Section 7AAA tournament. Immediately after crushing Duluth East 11-1 in the quarterfinals, the Rangers used an eight-run first inning to coast to an 8-1 win over No. 2 seed Duluth Denfeld Wednesday afternoon. Twelve batters went to the plate in the big rally. Micah McGuiness earned the victory on the mound.
Forest Lake today has two chances to win one game and claim a fifth consecutive section title. The championship round brings a rematch with the Hunters from Duluth, as Denfeld, went on to beat St. Francis for a second time on the day last evening.
Action gets underway at 4 p.m. at Fenway Athletic Park in Forest Lake. If the Rangers win the first game, the tournament is over and they will be off to state for a fifth straight year. If they lose, they will face the Hunters again at 6 p.m. in a winner-take-all game.
