Julie Bunn of Lake Elmo has filed for election to the State Senate in District 39. Bunn, a self-described moderate Democrat, previously served in the Minnesota House (2006-2010). Bunn is an applied economist with over 20 years of government, academic and civic experience in conducting and analyzing policy research related to health-care, economic development, labor markets, agriculture, land use, urban planning, and environment and resources issues. “The current state of our economy presents challenges for all of us,” Bunn said in a filing statement. “Just as our population is aging and relying more on public services and programs, state revenues aren’t keeping up with what’s needed to maintain roads, provide affordable public education, and fund the basics such as police protection, clean water, and public health services.” Bunn has also served for four years on the Lake Elmo Planning Commission. She resides in Lake Elmo with husband Marlon Gunderson. Their daughter Lauren is a 2008 graduate of Stillwater Area High School and recent college graduate. Bunn is the DFL endorsed candidate in Senate District 39.
